Bruce Castor Weighs In On Kathleen Kane

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Former Montgomery County District Attorney and County Commissioner Bruce Castor waded into the controversy surrounding the indictment of Pennsylvania Attorney General Kathleen Kane and stated he does not believe the charges emanated from any political motive.

Castor told Dom Giordano on Talk Radio 1210 WPHT he trusts that the Montgomery County District Attorney's office, where the charges against Kane were filed, would not have gone forward unless they had a very strong case.

"When it becomes evident at the preliminary hearing or at trial and we go along, you're going to probably find out that the [Montgomery County] DA's office took everything that they had learned previous and re-investigated it to make sure that it was not a product of anything that was unseemly and would not be admissible. The fact that it took 9 months means that they were meticulous in what they did."

He does not think Kane did herself any favors at yesterday's press conference.

"I'm not so sure how effective that was in blunting any of the allegations because when it boils down, the allegations are that the Attorney General illegally leaked confidential grand jury information in order to embarrass a political opponent...and whether there is a conspiracy that developed in order to bring the attention of law enforcement doesn't really much matter if it in fact got to law enforcement and they decided that there was probable cause to believe that the offenses occurred."

Castor, who is running to reclaim the post of District Attorney said he plans to campaign on his record.

"I intend to try to remind Montgomery County people that I was District Attorney before and that I did the job personally. You would see me in the field and in the court rooms. There were cases that I decided or didn't decide and I was forthright and outright on what it is that made me make a decision and that I was accessible to the press and to the public and I think people liked that."
