Write-In Candidate Hoping To Compete In Delaware County Special Election

Philadelphia (CBS) - Republican write-in candidate in tomorrow's special election for State Representative in Delaware County's 161st District, Lisa Esler, attempted to make the case why voters should choose her over the endorsed Republican in the race, Paul Mullen.

Talking with Chris Stigall on Talk Radio 1210 WPHT, Esler claims she is the only one is this race that will uphold Republican ideals.

"Paul Mullen is what I would consider the other Democrat on the ticket. He has supported Wolf, Casey, John Kane against McGarrigle, he supported Sestak and he's a union boss for the area. [He is the] the AFL-CIO President, recently resigned and the Business Manager of the IBEW. Basically, the poster child for special interest."

She believes local party leaders are conspiring with local union leaders to co-opt the seat left vacant in the Spring by the resignation of Joe Hackett.

"The GOP in Delaware County gets $1.7 million from the Philadelphia trades. This was payback for them, so they could continue to have their money flowing into the district."

Esler is hoping the unique timing of this special election gives her write-in candidacy a better chance of competing with the candidates on the ballot.

"The voter turnout is going to be low and I know that I have support from every spectrum of life, union members, young people, old people. It's just amazing the people that understand what's going in this election and I think they're ready for a change here in Delaware County."

Leanne Krueger-Braneky is the Democrat running to replace Hackett.
