Travis Long Tears ACL For Second Straight Year, Gone For Season

By Joseph Santoliquito

PHILADELPHIA, PA (CBS) — It looks as if Marcus Smith may get more of a chance to play than anticipated. As first reported by NFL Network's Ian Rappaport, Eagles linebacker Travis Long has suffered a torn ACL and will miss the entire 2015 NFL season.

The Eagles confirmed the report on Tuesday.

It's the same knee that Long injured late last summer, which forced him to miss the 2014 season.

Long apparently hurt his knee on Monday during the first day of training camp. The 6-foot-4, 258-pound free agent linebacker out of Washington State left the practice field and did not return.

The Eagles seemed to have plans for Long, and Chip Kelly said he would have made the team last year if he didn't get hurt. Long was in running as an back-up outside linebacker behind starters Brandon Graham and Connor Barwin. Long's injury now opens a greater opportunity for 2014 first-round draft choice Smith, who had limited playing time last year and was considered by many a bust.
