SPCA Rescues 15 Cats From South Philadelphia Home

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- 15 live cats were rescued from a home in South Philadelphia on Thursday according to the Pennsylvania SPCA. The organization says that the home had committed several violations including unsanitary confinement.

One deceased cat was also removed from the property.

The home located at 4th and Figel streets was searched by Humane Law Enforcement officers. The cats were found living in unsanitary conditions which included feces and urine present throughout the home according to officials.

All of the animals were taken to Pennsylvania SPCA headquarters and will undergo medical evaluations as they prepare for adoption.

The investigation is ongoing at this time.

"Every animal deserves a clean and sanitary environment," Pennsylvania SPCA CEO Jerry Buckley said. "These cats are now safe with our veterinary team and will soon be given a second chance with adoptions to happy and healthy homes."

To report animal abuse, the Pennsylvania SPCA encourages people to call their cruelty hotline at 1-866-601-SPCA
