Need Extra Cash? Local Food Vendor Staffing Up For Papal Visit

By Cherri Gregg

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Nearly two million people are expected to flock to Philadelphia to see Pope Francis in September. That big crowd will likely be hungry, which could provide an opportunity for thousands of Philadelphains to earn some money.

Aramark put out a call for 1,500 to 2,000 workers. The company will be providing food and beverage, as well as retail services during the Papel visit and they'll need lots and lots of people to serve food and sell retail items September 26th and 27th.

"We're going to be putting the word out," says Tim Styler, the job developer at Philadelphia Unemployment Project.

He says temp jobs are a quick way for the unemployed or underemployed to pick up a few bucks:

"It'll help a lot of people. A lot of the people that we have live in the shelters, so a day here or there works out."

Styler received the notice for the job opportunities this week -- so he'll be emailing, pushing the jobs in meetings and more.

"We have a database of close to 800 people and we'll put it out that way too, so hopefully we can get some people some work," he says.

The deadline to apply for the jobs are this Friday. Go to aramark.com/careers and search Job #38171 or 38164.
