Weather: Another Hot & Humid Day As Dangerous Heat Scorches The Region

By Geoff Bansen

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- It's going to be another sweltering day in the City of Brotherly Love, with highs expected in the mid 90's by this afternoon. Temperatures are already in the low 80's and it feels even warmer, a tell-tale sign of just how hot it is going to get. And the humidity is not helping things either, hitting you like a wall as you step outside.

An Excessive Heat Warning is in effect for Philadelphia and the surrounding suburbs until 8pm, with many other outlying areas in a heat advisory. Taking into account the heat index, it will feel more like 100° during the afternoon hours.

If you have to be outside today, take necessary precautions to stay cool and safe. Fortunately, relief is on the way, but not before sweating it out for a couple more days.

Weather wise, clouds will mix with some sun through the course of the day. A cold front is currently draped across the region, but it has fizzled quite a bit as it reached the Delaware Valley. As we encounter daytime heating however, we will likely see some convection during the afternoon, meaning a few showers and thunderstorms will pop up later today.

After another steamy day tomorrow, a secondary cold front will move through and clear things out for the rest of the week, meaning much more comfortable and pleasant weather.
