Wolf Signs Bill Naming Bridge For Slain Federal Prison Guard
SHICKSHINNY, Pa. (AP) — Gov. Tom Wolf has signed a bill naming a northeastern Pennsylvania bridge for a guard slain at a federal prison.
The bill signed Friday names the span in Conyngham Township, Luzerne County, the Senior Officer Eric J. Williams Memorial Bridge. The bridge carries state Route 3005 over part of Lily Lake, and is located about 35 miles southwest of Scranton. It's also about 11 miles away from Nanticoke, Williams' hometown.
Federal prosecutors plan to pursue the death penalty against inmate Jessie Con-ui, who is charged with first-degree murder in the February 2013 stabbing death of Williams at the Canaan federal prison in Waymart.
Prosecutors say the inmate used a homemade weapon to stab Williams more than 200 times, and also stomped his head and throat and slammed his head onto a floor.
