West Philly School Shows Appreciation For Dads With Breakfast

By Mike Dougherty

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - It was an early Father's Day gift Friday morning for dads in West Philadelphia as a school opened early to serve breakfast.

Donuts for Dads is an annual tradition at West Philadelphia Achievement Charter Elementary School. But it's about more than donuts.

Principal Christine Godfrey says the spread is fit for a king:

"We serve sausages and hash browns and eggs and yogurt. Whatever you can think of is probably on the menu," she said. "I think often we spend a lot of time focusing on mothers and we have so many hard-working fathers who are dedicated to their children, and this is our once a year event we get to say thank you to our fathers."

Dads James (wearing the #1 Dad shirt in the photo above) and William tell KYW Newsradio they are thankful for the effort, and the eggs:

"We get overlooked a lot, so it's definitely a good thing to get appreciated and recognized every now and again for the hard work."

"I love it. I appreciate the school for letting the dads come out and be with the kids."
