Top 5 Sports-Themed TV Shows

By Andrew Porter

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- With the new HBO show Ballers (premiers Sunday, June 21st at 10 p.m.) and a new season of Hard Knocks starting this summer, here's a look at the top-five sports-themed television shows of all-time.

5. Rocket Power

Shoebes!

From 1999-2004 Nickelodeon produced the greatest sports animated show ever created, Rocket Power. I mean, who doesn't love Rocket Power? Otto" Rocket, Regina "Reggie" Rocket, Maurice "Twister" Rodriguez, and Sam "Squid" Dullard running around participating in extreme sports!

We got the sun, we got the surf, we got chicken wings, we got...sand in the potato salad!

4. Playmakers

One of the most controversial shows ever, is ESPN's Playmakers, stirring up trouble with the NFL. The fictional show dangerously depicted the behind-the-scenes elements of the NFL like domestic abuse, drug use, and homosexuality. It was always entertaining, even if it was slightly ridiculous at times.

3. Eastbound & Down

Danny McBride as Kenny Powers is one of the all-time great TV characters, portraying an obnoxious MLB pitcher.

2. Arliss

Arliss, starring Robert Wuhl as a sport agent, is a classic and one of the most popular TV shows ever. It's like the Jerry Macguire of TV.

1. Friday Night Lights

This isn't even close. Friday Night Lights, created by Peter Berg, is by far the best sports-related TV shows ever. So many amazing characters and storylines developed over five incredible seasons, FNL is worth watching from start-to-finish if you haven't already.

Ps. Eric and and Tami Taylor played by Kyle Chandler and Connie Britton is the all-time TV couple.
