Eagles' Backfield Ranked Best In NFL

By Andrew Porter

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- No LeSean McCoy? No problem.

When Chip Kelly traded McCoy to the Buffalo Bills for Kiko Alonso, many fans were shocked, some worried. However, shortly after, Kelly brought in DeMarco Murray and Ryan Mathews via free agency to go along with Darren Sproles, forming an extremely talented backfield.

So talented in fact, that NFL.com's Marc Sessler and Daniel Jermiah ranked the Eagles' running back corps---the aforementioned trio of Murray, Mathews, and Sproles along with Kenjon Barner and Matthew Tucker---as the best in football.

"Coming off his league-leading 392 carries last season, DeMarco Murray gives Chip Kelly the kind of one-cut runner he didn't see inLeSean McCoy," Sessler wrote. "Still, look for Ryan Mathews to serve a much bigger role than some expect with the Eagles. ESPN's Louis Riddick came away from team OTAs saying: "Murray gets the headlines, but Ryan Mathews looks very good. And they like him. A lot."

"Murray gets all the headlines and attention, but I'm even more intrigued to see what the role is for Mathews and Sproles," Jermiah said. "The way they do it, you go out there for a series."

McCoy and his new Bills team is ranked No. 7. Without Murray, the Cowboys are ranked just 26th, while the closest NFC East team to the Eagles is the Redskins at No. 15.
