Driver Accused Of Striking 4 Philadelphia Police Officers Declared Incompetent

PHILADELPHIA (AP)A man accused of having struck four police officers with his car in northwest Philadelphia last month has been declared mentally incompetent for court proceedings.

Forty-seven-year-old Rudolph Keitt was charged with attempted murder after the May 12 confrontation and pursuit, during which he was shot but survived.

Defense attorney Brian Mildenberg said his client will receive psychiatric treatment for 60 days. He said Keitt has schizophrenia and epilepsy, and that he had been hearing voices and experiencing delusions and hallucinations.

Assistant District Attorney Jacob Sand argued Friday that while Keitt may have mental-health issues, he intended to hit the officers with his car.

A spokesman for the district attorney's office said prosecutors will determine their next move at a status hearing in August.
