Free Library Hosts Swearing-In Ceremony For 50 New U.S. Citizens

By Marcy Norton

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Fifty area residents became United States citizens during a naturalization ceremony today at the Free Library of Philadelphia.

Twelve years ago, Magdalena Bilinski came to the US on vacation from Poland, and met the man who would later become her husband.

Today, she traveled all the way from Pocono Lakes, Pa., to attend the naturalization ceremony, and she couldn't stop smiling.

"I'm proud of myself, because it's my dream.  I came here, I met my husband, I raised my family, I started my family here, so I feel like this is my home," she told KYW Newsradio.

She said this day was also important to her son.

"My son is not going to be afraid anymore, like somebody can send me back to Poland, like he was before.  So, it's really important," she said with a laugh.

These newest citizens orginally hailed from 27 different countries.
