Female Allegedly Taken On Disturbing Uber Ride In South Jersey

AVALON, NJ (CBS) – Authorities say a female passenger reported she experienced inappropriate behavior by a driver contracted by Uber last month in South Jersey.

The incident happened on Memorial Day in Avalon, New Jersey.

Police say they received a complaint from a seasonal resident regarding disturbing behavior from a hired driver contracted through Uber.

The female allegedly filmed the alarming incident on her cell phone. The video shows a male in the backseat with a female passenger, groping himself.

On Friday, Uber sent the following statement regarding the incident: 'The driver has been permanently removed from the Uber platform for his inappropriate behavior, and we have reached out to the rider to apologize for such an uncomfortable experience.'

Police say they are still awaiting a response from Uber and have served them with a subpoena to identify the driver involved in this case.

The incident is under investigation.

Police are urging citizens to utilize taxi or jitney transports that are currently licensed through the Borough.
