Aaron Nola Named Phillies Minor League Pitcher Of The Month

By Ray Boyd

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Aaron Nola is one of the positives that Phillies fans are choosing to pay attention to this season. The 2014 first round draft pick is currently in Double-A with the Reading Fightin Phils and many people are hoping to see Nola in the big leagues sooner rather than later.

On Tuesday, the team announced that Nola has been named as the organization's Minor League Pitcher of the Month for his performance in May.

Nola, 23, started six games for Reading during that time and went 4-1 with an ERA of 1.35. In May, he allowed only two home runs and  opponents were only able to muster up a .210 batting average against him.

He also racked up 32 strikeouts in 40 innings while only allowing five walks. There is no secret as to why Phillies fans are eager to see Nola pitching at Citizens Bank Park. Nola is quickly proving to be one of the best pitchers at the Double-A level which has many wanting to see him fast-tracked to the majors.

The Phillies also announced that Rhys Hoskin was named the Player of the Month for May. The Lakewood first baseman hit .342 in May with two home runs, 23 RBIs, 18 runs scored, six doubles and two triples.
