Former PA. Governor Rendell: Beau Biden's Death A "Horrible Loss"

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Vice President Joe Biden's son, Beau Biden, passed away Saturday at the age of 46.

Former Pennsylvania Governor Ed Rendell, in a statement, called Beau Biden a leader who did many great things for the state of Delaware and the United States:

"This is a great tragedy. It's always tragic when someone dies so young, but Beau Biden was an individual, just, unquantifiable potential. He was smart, good looking, incredibly likable just like his dad; there was nothing, I think, that he couldn't accomplish in his future. I think he was a sure bet, had he been healthy, to be elected Governor of Delaware and from there, who knows? It's tragic. He was a fine Attorney General, a guy of tremendous integrity. He could have gone out and done some great things in the state of Delaware and for the United States. It's a horrible loss.

I knew Beau a little bit personally, as I said he's as likable as his dad. This is just an unspeakable tragedy.

My main memory of Beau is that he had a great sense of humor and a great smile, and again, very much his Dad's son. Had the same smile as his dad, same sense of humor, and he could laugh at himself.

I don't think there's any word in the English language or any other language that can console them for losing their son and losing somebody so incredibly talented. But I know people all over the country are praying for their family."

U.S. Senator Bob Casey also offered his condolences and prayers to the Biden family as the nation grieves the loss of Beau Biden.

"Beau Biden served his country honorably in Iraq and his home state of Delaware with distinction as Attorney General. As Attorney General, he fought tirelessly to protect children. On behalf of the Casey family, I extend my deepest condolences to Vice President Biden and his wife, Dr. Jill Biden; Beau's wife Hallie and his two children Natalie, and Hunter; Beau's brother, Hunter and his sister, Ashley."

Beau Biden is survived by wife Hallie and children Hunter and Natalie Biden.
