Soul Ready For 'Boardwalk Bowl' In Atlantic City

By Matt Leon

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The Philadelphia Soul bounced back from their first loss of the season in grand style last weekend, punishing Tampa Bay down in Florida, 71-27. Now the Soul will look to make it two wins in a row on Saturday night when they take on the Las Vegas Outlaws down in Atlantic City in the inaugural 'Boardwalk Bowl.'

The 8-1 Soul dominated Tampa Bay from the outset Saturday and they actually pitched a first-half shutout, leading 27-0 at the break, and coasting to the finish line from there.

"It was a great bounce back week for us," Soul head coach Clint Dolezel tells KYW Newsradio. "After suffering a loss in Jacksonville (55-47 on May 16th), the guys came out, put the work in. We had a few injures in that Jacksonville game, a lot of guys stepped up, we had four new players play in the game. All three phases hit all at once, defense really played well. Anytime you can get that kind of performance out of all three levels it's going to be wins like that."

It was an incredible day against Tampa Bay for JLB/FB Joe Goosby. He rushed for 3 touchdowns and also had 3 tackles, a 6-yard interception return for a touchdown, a blocked extra point returned for two-points and two forced fumbles.

There is a lot of buzz ahead of this week's game in Atlantic City, which will be played at Boardwalk Hall.

"We're looking forward to it," Dolezel says. "We're treating it like a road game. We're going to bus down the day before and stay in the hotel and stay the night after. So it's a new unique experience and we're looking forward to it."

Las Vegas, an expansion team, brings a 3-5 record into this match-up. They have lost three straight games.

"They've got good talent, they really do," Dolezel says. "You don't beat Arizona (back in week #2) as an expansion team and not have some talent. They've got a good coach in Aaron Garcia, Hall of Famer when it's all said and done with that. We're going to have to go down and play, they're not just going to roll over and die. They definitely can score on you if you're not careful."

Philadelphia and Las Vegas will kickoff at 6:00pm on Saturday.
