Report: Cole Hamels Does Not Waive No Trade Clause For Blue Jays
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- CBSSports baseball writer Jon Heyman is reporting that Phillies pitcher Cole Hamels is unwilling to waive his no-trade clause in a deal that would send him to Toronto.
According to Heyman, the Blue Jays approached the Phillies about Hamels as they are in the midst of a disappointing 19-24 start to the season.
Hamels has a 20-team no trade clause and Heyman is reporting that he is not going to waive that right to pitch for Toronto. He adds that the Blue Jays could make a reasonable trade partner for the Phillies due to the number of young pitching prospects that they could potentially offer.
Hamels is currently 4-3 on the season with a 3.24 ERA. He is clearly the Phillies most valuable trade piece and dealing him would mark the most significant move of the team's admitted rebuild.
