Broncos Kicker Brandon McManus: 'As A Fan, I'd Probably Go For Two'

By Andrew Porter

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- More two-point conversion attempts could be coming to a football stadium near you.

Earlier this week the NFL owners approved changes to the extra point, moving back the kick to the 15-yard line. Former Penn State offensive lineman, current Baltimore Raven, and mathematician John Urschel concluded that the expected points for the two-point conversion is now slightly higher than the extra point.

Denver Broncos place kicker and Philadelphia Native, Brandon McManus, says as a fan he would lean towards going for two.

"He did a paper about the percentages about what you should do and it was about a .05 percent higher rate that you should go for the two-pointer over the extra-point at 33-yards," McManus told Angelo Cataldi and the 94WIP Morning Show on Thursday. "As a fan, I'd probably go for two. I think Chip Kelly had an inside source, that's why he signed Tim Tebow before anybody else. It's gonna be interesting in the strategies that these head coaches will definitely change throughout the season."

McManus was signed by the Indianapolis Colts as an undrafted free-agent in 2013 after setting career records for points scored (338), field goals made (60) and attempted (83) at Temple University.

He's hoping the rule changes to the extra point can make him so extra dough.

"It adds more value to the position," McManus said. "Sooner or later the teams---if a good kicker performs well with all these new extra points they're going to have to pay us more, so that's a good thing. But, it is gonna create a little more controversy especially for the northeast teams and out here in Denver with the bad weather at the end of the season, it definitely will make the kicks a little bit more difficult compared to sunny Florida."

McManus grew up in Montgomeryville as a huge Eagles fan. His father had season tickets since he was three years old.

"I still love the Eagles," McManus said, "Obviously I just can't root for them [now]."

Brandon McManus is hosting a football camp in North Jersey to prevent bullying, as well as a charity kickball event in Montgomeryville. Visit Antibullysquad.org for details.
