Philadelphia City Council Website Hacked Hours After Pa. Primary Election Day

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Officials say PHLCouncil.com was hacked and replaced with new content just one day after Pennsylvania's primary election day.

City Council Communications Director says the website was hacked and replaced with new content around 7 a.m. Wednesday.

The content added during the hack said in part: "I am Muslim & Islam is my way of Life."

Officials say the service provider was temporarily locked out of the website and was able to get back in about two hours later to delete the new content added during the hack.

The website was fully restored at 10:11 a.m.

The communications director says, 'We have no information on who is behind the hacking. The website software has been updated to address vulnerabilities. To be clear, PHLCouncil.com is hosted separately from the City government's website. No City information that would be deemed sensitive was ever compromised or accessed. The Police Department and OIT have been informed and are working with City Council to prevent future attacks.'
