Burlington City Hosts Crisis Response Training For Local Officers, Chaplains

By Cleve Bryan

BURLINGTON CITY, N.J., (CBS) -- As an extension of their community policing model Burlington City is hosting crisis response training this week for local officers and chaplains.

Chaplain Gary Holden, who helped in Ferguson and Baltimore, teaches officers and chaplains how to diffuse crises.

"Usually we get them in a room and get them talking about it within the first few hours, we call that a diffusing and the idea is just to help them release what's going on," says Holden.

About 15 people from several Burlington County police departments learned how to host group discussions for first responders and people in the community dealing with crises.

"Things like Ferguson that happened really motivated me more to take that next step and we did," says Captain Chris Fletcher from the Maple Shade Police Department which brought several chaplains.
