Uber Lends Helping Hand To Goodwill

By Mike Dougherty

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Uber is helping Philadelphia residents today with their spring cleaning, while also supporting charity by picking up people's unwanted clothing and dropping them off at various Goodwill locations across the Delaware Valley for free.

Donors are asked to open their Uber app and schedule a pickup under the special give option at the bottom of the screen.

"It's super easy, super convenient," says Genna Smyth with Uber Philly. "I know I cleaned my closet out with ten bags of clothes."

Smyth says the donated bags will be taken directly to Goodwill for free.

"The Goodwill is very committed to training people in the community and to figure out jobs for their community as well," she says, "so the partnership between both Uber and Goodwill really made sense."

And Smyth says drivers will be paid by the company for their time.

The pickup runs from 11am to 5pm Saturday.
