Demonstrators Protest Mayoral Candidate, Company In Bala Cynwyd

By Justin Udo

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- On Wednesday afternoon, protesters angry with Philadelphia mayoral candidate Anthony Williams and the Bala Cynwyd-based Susquehanna Group gathered to show their dismay with both parties.

About 30 people with the group Action United held a protest in front of the Susquehanna Group's headquarters on City Line Avenue.

"These billionaires, these hedge funders are bank rolling Anthony Williams campaign for Mayor. These are the same billionaires that money is connected to voter rights suppression. The same people who are funding breaking of unions and privatizing our schools."

Kia Philpot Hinton with Action United says they reached out to the Susquehanna Group, but the request has fallen on deaf ears.

"If your true intention is to help our children why not meet with us and they denied it. They didn't want to meet with us. So we want to know what is your true intention because right now people are hurting."

In a written statement from the Susquehanna Group they say they just want to help the children currently attending failing, often violent schools.
