Ponzio's Bakery: Prof Burger Bacon Eggroll

Two facts to start: One, Nick and John Fifis, the genius impresarios at Ponzio's Diner, were the inspirations for this entire food hunt. Last year, they mixed up a maple-bacon milkshake, which got me thinking about the most creative ways to use bacon.

Two, Ponzio's can't win this contest. I have a long and happy business relationship with the World's Greatest Diner. My Saturday show with Ray Didinger takes place there.

But them being ineligible doesn't mean I can't write about their creation – which is based on a burger they've named after me. The Prof Burger boasts cheddar cheese, sautéed onions, mushrooms, honey BBQ sauce and, of course, bacon.

What could make that better? Well, perhaps chopping up the burger, stuffing it into an eggroll wrapping and surrounding the entire thing with crispy bacon. Over the top? You may think so. But I'll bet there's not a single ingredient in this mix that most people don't love.

It really is spectacular. The Fifis boys are currently debating whether to put in on the permanent menu.  If enough people go in and demand one, they'll do it and the world will be a happier place. And while you're at it, tell them to bring back the maple-bacon milkshake.
