Police Investigating Robberies Targeting Elderly In South Jersey

By David Spunt

WEST DEPTFORD, N.J., (CBS) -- West Deptford Police detectives are looking for a woman they say is responsible for attacking and robbing elderly victims. Police say the woman knocked on doors and made small talk before attacking. Detectives say there are four victims and eight attempted robbery cases.

"I sort of fell down and she got my wallet out," one alleged victim told Eyewitness News.

The 88-year-old man asked us not to identify him, out of fear he may be attacked again.  Police say the suspect knocked on the man's door last week, got inside and beat him before taking his money.

"She could have killed me," he said.

Police describe the woman as African-American, age 50 to 60 with bushy hair and glasses.

"It's definitely the worst of the worst to prey on an elderly victim," Assistant Police Chief Sean McKenna told Eyewitness News.

McKenna told Eyewitness News the robberies happened in broad daylight, and the woman attacked at random.

"There's been intelligence bulletins put out through Gloucester and Camden Counties," McKenna said.

Police believe this woman lives in the area, but could attack anywhere. Detectives say they are almost positive there are more victims out there. If you can help detectives find this woman call West Deptford Police at 856-853-4599 extension #168.
