What a nice double entry from a mom-and-pop (or, at least, husband-and-wife) Jersey bakery started three-and-a-half years ago by Toni (baker) and Joshua (marketer) Moshen. The cupcake is a fine item – lots of apple and cinnamon, topped with a cream cheese icing with maple syrup. There's some bacon inside, and flakes on the top. But we think – at least for this contest – it could stand a little more bacon.
The bread pudding was even more fun. It's a brick of homemade challah bread, chunked with apple and bacon, and topped with pecan bacon praline. Just for fun, it's all soaked in bourbon. Very rich. Sweet and savory. Moist texture with the crunchy top. Tasted like something my Jewish bubbe would have made back in the day – had my kosher grandma ever used bacon.
