Blind Therapy Dog Helps Ill, Elderly In Lancaster County
LANCASTER, Pa. (CBS) – A very special golden retriever in Lancaster County is giving back as a therapy dog.
Tanner, who is blind and has a disease that's sort of like glaucoma in humans, is helping others despite his own disability.
Tanner reportedly went blind two years ago, but he's taken on a new mission.
"We really weren't sure how he was going to handle it, and two days after the second surgery, he was like a totally different dog," says Tanner's owner, Theresa Ruppenthal.
Without the pain, he now visits the residents of a retirement home once a week, and his blindness barely hampers him.
One resident says seeing Tanner helps her accept the fact that she herself is going blind.
