Man Accused Of Holding Firefighters Hostage In Elkins Park Facing Kidnapping Charges

ELKINS PARK, Pa. (CBS) – Police say the man accused of holding several firefighters hostage inside of a basement of a firehouse is facing multiple charges including kidnapping and false imprisonment.

Authorities say on March 31, Paul Jordan held several firefighters hostage at gunpoint in the basement of La Mott Fire House on the 7600 block of Penrose Avenue.

Police say Jordan was recently fired from the fire company and was distraught about the termination.

Jordan eventually freed the hostages and no one was injured in the incident.

Officials say Jordan completed a mental health evaluation on Tuesday and was taken into custody.

Authorities say he is facing charges including multiple counts of kidnapping, criminal attempt kidnapping, aggravated assault, terroristic threats, criminal trespass, simple assault, possession of a weapon with intent to commit a crime, possession of an
instrument of crime, unlawful restraint, recklessly endangering another person, defiant trespass, false imprisonment and burglary.

Police say Jordan's bail was set at $1.5 million.

A preliminary hearing has been scheduled for April 21.
