Millions Of Americans Suffer From Panic Disorder
By Dr. Brian McDonough, Medical Editor
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Panic disorder impacts six million people and two thirds of them are women.
For those with panic disorder it can be stressful. The symptoms are dramatic. These include repeated episodes of intense fear.
In many cases, the fear is not expected and is a surprise.
Physical symptoms can include shortness of breath, dizziness, and even chest pain.
There are many levels of this feeling of panic, but there is treatment. Counseling can help for many people, as can medications.
I think the most important issue is many people live with it because they are embarrassed to seek help. If you have panic disorder, realize you are not alone. You can get the help you need.
