New Facebook App Allows Users To Add To Friends' Shared Video Clips

By social media editor Melony Roy

MENLO PARK, Calif. (CBS) -- At last week's "F8" Facebook Developers Conference, Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg made it very clear that video is the future for his social media platform.

And today, the Internet behemoth has launched a new video sharing app.

Until now, when someone shared a video on Facebook, their friends could share it further, and post comments.  But with Facebook's latest video-sharing app, called "Riff," users can add their own video onto the original.

Facebook friends who also have Riff receive a notification when a new video is posted, and can attach their own 20-second clips to the original; in turn, their Facebook friends with Riff are notified, and they can do the same thing.

The new clips will be shared within Riff, and users have the option to share to Facebook, too.

Riff is the result of an after-hours work project developed by Facebook employees.

The app is available for download on Apple and Android devices.
