2 Dead After Small Plane Crashes In Chester County

WEST GOSHEN, Pa. (CBS) – Officials say two people were killed after a small plane crashed Sunday afternoon near Brandywine Airport in Chester County, then caught fire.

This happened just after 1:30 p.m. in the area of Saunders Lane and Andrew Drive in West Goshen.

Officials say the single-engine Piper PA28  went into a tailspin after takeoff.

"Shortly after taking off, the plane started to sputter and then basically took a nose dive," explains Bob Fleming with Goshen Fire Company.

The plane shattered on impact with debris spreading everywhere. It crashed about 15-20 feet from Harrison Hill Apartments --  a senior living complex.

The plane's pilot and passenger died on impact as a fire broke out on the scene, which crews quickly put out.

"I saw flames about 20 feet up in the air," says Brad Trapnell, who lives nearby.

There is not believed to be any other injuries.

The  FAA continues to investigate while NTSB investigators are expected to arrive on the scene on Monday, hoping to figure out what exactly caused the plane to crash.
