PSP Commissioner Says He 'Acted Hastily' In Sign Flap

By Tony Romeo

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - The man nominated by Governor Wolf to lead the Pennsylvania State Police admits that he "made an error in judgment" with regard to roadside signs criticizing him that had been posted in his suburban Harrisburg neighborhood.

Late Thursday night, Acting State Police Commissioner Marcus Brown released a statement admitting to what he calls an error in judgment related to a flap over his decision to wear the uniform of the Pennsylvania State Police.

Brown is the former head of Maryland State Police, but he did not come up through the ranks of Pennsylvania State Police, and his decision to wear the Pennsylvania troopers' uniform does not sit well in some quarters. Signs criticizing that decision were placed along a road near his home.

In his statement, Brown does not explicitly admit to removing the signs, but says he "acted hastily" when he saw them and that they were "turned over" to local law enforcement.

The Associated Press reports local police are investigating the incident as a potential case of misdemeanor theft.
