Cops: NJ Man Bound, Gagged And Dunked Girlfriend In Bathtub Over Social Media Use

TRENTON, N.J. (CBS) -- A New Jersey man bound, gagged and repeatedly dunked his girlfriend in a tub full of water because he was angry over the woman's use of social media, investigators said.

Jamal Bethea, 26, is facing charges of aggravated assault and criminal restraint.

According to investigators, the reported incident happened in an apartment in Trenton on March 10th.

According to the Mercer County Prosecutor's Office, the victim told them she was bound at her wrists and ankles with a shoestring and gagged with a t-shirt.

The victim told investigators she was repeatedly dunked in a bathtub full of water.

Investigators said they found a bloody t-shirt that was related to the reported incident.

The woman told police she was eventually untied and called police from a neighbor's apartment.

Police say the incident was prompted by Bethea being angry at the victim's use of social media.

Bethea is being held on $50,000 bail. He is awaiting sentencing on a probation violation.
