Weekend Box Office Report: 'Cinderella' Has A Ball At The Box Office
By Bill Wine
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The slipper certainly fit Cinderella this weekend.
The new live-action version of the classic fairytale, Cinderella, starring Lily James and Cate Blanchett, earned an estimated $70-million to run away with the box-office crown.
The weekend's other debuting attraction, Run All Night, the action thriller with Liam Neeson and Ed Harris, was a distant second, taking in $11-million.
Rounding out the top five were holdovers Kingsman: The Secret Service, Focus, and Chappie, each earning around $ 6-million.
Overall, thanks chiefly to Cinderella, industry-wide totals were ahead of last year's numbers.
