Area Roadways Slowly Recovering After Biggest Snowfall Of Season

By Mike DeNardo

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Road crews were able to plow much of Thursday's snow off of the major arteries, but work still remains.

Generally the more traffic a road sees, the more likely that road crews cleared the snow from it. Mark from the Northeast noticed an improvement near Woodhaven and Knights Road:

"Yesterday during the snow, they were pretty awful. I was sliding everywhere. Today, they seem to have some snow. It's pretty packed down. But I seem to have some traction now."

Ray from the northeast says the true challenge is the secondary and residential streets:

"The main roads are good. The back streets are a little bad, but the main roads are clear."

Ray adds things are pretty bad right in front of his house.

A bright sun Friday morning was trying to melt the residual ice and packed snow, but with sub-freezing air temperatures, roads will not improve quickly, and it'll likely be a while before traction is completely back to normal.
