Continued Snow Forcing Philadelphia Companies To 'Weather The Storm'

By Robin Culverwell

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - With another snowstorm on the horizon, parents and employees are faced with deciding whether to try to get to work or stay home.

Denise Papanier is director of northeast market operations for Reed Smith, a global law firm with an office of 300 employees in Philadelphia. She's the person who gets up before dawn and decides whether the office will open on time, open late, or not at all.

She says keeping employees safe is first and foremost in her mind.

"If (the office is open and) they want to work from home, they can work from home," she tells KYW Newsradio.  Or, if they feel they can't work from home -- such as if they have three kids home from school who require constant attention -- they can take a vacation day.

If the office is closed, she adds, everyone gets the day off and no one has to burn a vacation day.

Papanier says the staff is diligent about getting the job done when not in the office.  She says the winter has been tough because of all the ice, and because the forecasts have changed as storms move in.
