Democrats To Weigh Pennsylvania High Court Endorsements

HERSHEY, Pa. (AP) — Pennsylvania Democratic Party leaders are in Hershey to consider endorsing candidates for three openings on the state's high court.

Six state and county judges are vying in Saturday's voting at the Hotel Hershey for the party's support in the May 19 primary.

The candidates include three current members of the Superior Court, one of two mid-level state appellate courts — Christine Donohue and David Wecht in Pittsburgh and Anne Lazarus in Philadelphia. The other three candidates are Philadelphia Judge Kevin Dougherty, Jefferson County Judge John Foradora and Allegheny County Judge Dwayne Woodruff.

A Democratic endorsement requires the approval of at least two-thirds of the state committee members. That standard prevented the Democrats from endorsing gubernatorial candidates in contested primaries in 200 and 2014.
