STUDY: State College, Pittsburgh Among '25 Best Places To Retire'

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- When you hear Pittsburgh and State College, did you instantly think of great places to spend your retirement years?

Well, according to Forbes, maybe you should.

In an article posted on Forbes.com, the cities of Pittsburgh and State College are among the top 25 best places to retire.

According to Forbes, State College, home of Penn State, has Pros such as being a college town, a good economy, low crime and easy to walk. The con? The cost of living in State College is 5-percent above the national average.

Some of the pros for Pittsburgh include a solid economy, average cost of living, affordable home prices and large number of doctors per capita. The cons? According to Forbes, Pittsburgh has a high crime rate and cold winters.

Some of the other cities on the top 25 list include Austin, Texas; Boise, Idaho; Fargo, North Dakota; Salt Lake City, Utah and Venice, Florida.

According to Forbes, the list was compiled using data that included housing and living costs, taxes, weather and air quality, crime rates, doctor availability, and active-lifestyle rankings for walkability, bicycling and volunteering. They also looked at economic data with an eye toward a "working" retirement.
