L&I Deems Building Frozen After Fire 'Imminently Dangerous,' Must Be Demolished
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Officials continue to investigate a two-alarm fire that happened early Monday morning in West Philadelphia.
The fire broke out around 4 a.m. on the 200 block of South 52nd Street and was placed under control around 6:30 a.m.
Since the temperatures were so low, the building appeared to be coated in ice, and some of the firefighters' clothing was also frozen.
"I've been around here for 52 years… I've never seen anything like that in my life," Matthew Jefferson told Eyewitness News.
On Tuesday, L&I commissioner Carlton Williams told CBS3 the building had been classified "Imminently Dangerous." He says that if the owner cannot demolish the building, then the City will do so.
