Study: 3-4 Cups Of Coffee A Day Could Keep Cancer Away

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Ladies, feel free to enjoy that latte: A new study shows drinking three to four cups of coffee can decrease your risk of developing endometrial cancer.

The research, which is published in Cancer Epidemiology, Biomarkers & Prevention; looked at the dietary risk associations of 84 foods and nutrients based on dietary questionnaires from three different studies, the European Prospective Investigation Into Cancer and Nutrition (EPIC) Study and the Nurses' Health Study (NHS) and NHSII, out of a Boston hospital and the Harvard School of Public Health.

Of the EPIC study participants, those who drank about three cups of coffee a day had a 19% lower risk of endometrial cancer when compared with people who drank less than a cup of joe a day, while the NHS/NHSII participants who drank four cups of coffee per day had an 18% lower risk of developing the cancer.

"We confirmed observations from previous studies that having a high versus low intake of coffee was associated with a reduced risk for endometrial cancer, and for most other dietary factors there was no association with endometrial cancer risk," explained Melissa A. Merritt, PhD, a research fellow in cancer epidemiology at Imperial College London, in a press release.

Scientists say there is more that needs to be done, but for caffeine-craving women worldwide, the research is promising.
