Officials Meet Face-To-Face With Community Members After Snow Shovelers Questioned In Lower Merion

By Justin Udo

LOWER MERION, Pa. (CBS) -- Many Lower Merion community members are upset over two incidents where cops stopped black men who were shoveling snow. Community groups held a meeting to discuss racial profiling and the police.

The January incidents where two groups of black men were detained by Lower Merion police for shoveling without a permit has many in the community wondering if racial profiling was involved.

"The fact that people are coming together to talk about the issues is the first step. We don't talk about them there's never going to be any progress or movement forward."

At a meeting hosted by the NAACP and other community groups, folks came out to discuss what can be done to strengthen the bond between the neighborhood and police.

"When you look at data and the police department it becomes more transparent then changes can be made."

The community groups are hosting another public meeting in hopes Lower Merion Police will talk about the issues.
