Mark Streit On Flyers' Four-Game Winning Streak: Good To Have Days Off

By Matt Leon

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) --- With a four-game winning streak, the Flyers are currently enjoying their hottest stretch of the season

However, the most recent win in that stretch, a 1-0 victory on Saturday against Toronto, has been followed by several days off and the Flyers actually won't get back to game action now until Thursday night when they host the New York Islanders.

"When you win four in a row, you want to keep going and keep the momentum and the energy," Flyers defenseman Mark Streit tells KYW Newsradio. "But sometimes it's also good to have a few days off to work a few things in practice, because when you play that many games you have a hard time getting good practices in. So this is a good time to work on a few things and to get some rest and to recover."

Listen to Mark Streit with KYW's Matt Leon:

The Flyers have clawed their way to .500 thanks to this recent burst. They are now 22-22-7 this season. Their point total of 51 is good for fifth place in the Metropolitan Division. The Flyers .500 record kind of tells you what kind of season it has been for the Flyers - an inconsistent one. Streit says they are very aware of that inconsistency.

"It's very frustrating," Streit says. "Especially when it happens during games. A few times, we've had a really good first period and then the second period it kind of went the other way, didn't play our game anymore, a lot of turnovers, a lot of mistakes and gave the momentum back to the other team. It's frustrating, but it's something that you need to work on. That's why it's always good if you take shift after shift, you don't look too much ahead, you just focus on the next time you have to go on the ice."

On Thursday night the Flyers will take on an Islanders team that leads the Metropolitan Division with 65 points (32-17-1 record).

"They are a highly skilled team," Streit says. "They have a lot of offensive power. Obviously, John Tavares is an exceptional player and they're tough to play against. But we have a really good team as well, and we've just got to play a really good checking game, play well defensively and play really physical."

The Flyers and the Islanders will face-off at 7:00pm on Thursday night.
