Eagles Announce Final Coaching Changes
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) --- The Philadelphia Eagles have named Princeton's inside linebackers coach Stephen Thomas as the team's defensive quality control coach.
In addition, the Eagles named assistant special teams coach Matthew Harper as the team's new assistant defensive backs coach and defensive quality control coach Michael Clay as the team's new assistant special teams coach.
Thomas, 31, spent the past three seasons at Princeton. Princeton earned the Ivy League title in 2013 as they ranked second in the league in total defense and rushing defense.
A native of Brooklyn, NY and a product of Brooklyn Technical High School, Thomas was a defensive back at the University of Buffalo. He began his coaching career at Cortland (2007-08) before becoming the linebackers coach for the University of Delaware in 2009 and their secondary in 2010.
Thomas spent the 2011 season at Southern Mississippi and helped the Golden Eagles to a conference title and a berth in the Hawaii Bowl.
Harper joined the Eagles along with head coach Chip Kelly in 2013. A former safety for City College of San Francisco and Oregon, Harper began his coaching career in 2008.
Clay played linebacker for Oregon from 2009-2012, earning second-team All-Pac 12 honors as a senior. He began his coaching career in January of 2014, when he was hired by the Eagles.
