Founder Of National Awareness Alliance: Why Was Jerame Reid Killed For Doing Exactly What The Driver Did?
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- On December 30th, 2014 Jerame Reid was stopped in Bridgeton, New Jersey for running a stop sign. Through the course of events shown on the officer's dashboard camera, Reid was then shot and killed.
Walter Hudson, chairman and founder of National Awareness Alliance, talked to WPHT midday host Dom Giordano about all of the questions that he still has about the shooting, even though he has watched the video over 200 times.
"Why did officer Days feel compelled to shoot him? How is it that the driver can get out on his side with his hands up and Officer Worley can take him into custody, and Jerame Reid can get out in the same way and manner that the driver did and he received a hail of bullets?...The fact that he got out of the car with his hands up. What threat was Officer Days in? I question the fact that no one was charged. In fact, how come the driver did not receive a ticket?"
Hudson continues to question why it is that Reid is now unable now to see his day in court when some other men involved police shootings were able to.
"Well, when it comes to the disproportionate police shootings across the nation, we have to question Officer Days' behavior. How can we have Clyde Bundy in Las Vegas who had assault weapons pointed at federal agents and wasn't arrested nor was he shot, but you can have James Holmes in Colorado shoot up a movie theater and have explosives in his home? He can be apprehended and not shot and will face his due process, but when it comes to Jerame Reid he has to be met with a hail of bullets, deprived of his human rights, civil rights, and his constitutional rights to face due process in court for whatever the case may be."
While many other police shootings that have been in the news have had racial undertones, Hudson does not feel that what happened that night had anything to do with race.
"I don't see this black and white. I see this as doing what's right, and those officers did not do what was right. I'm quite sure that they did not follow department protocol that night."
