Today's Sunshine A Welcome Sight (But Not For Long)

By Kate Bilo

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- After yesterday's storm, today's sunshine has been a welcome sight! Temperatures are above normal on this Martin Luther King Jr. Day, and the only negative we have to talk about is the wind, which is still gusting to 25-30 mph.

Unfortunately, this is the calm between two storms as yet another commute may be impacted by wintry weather by Wednesday! While Tuesday looks dry and Wednesday morning looks okay, a clipper system will arrive during the day Wednesday and bring snow and rain into the evening hours, leading to the concern for slick travel during the Wednesday evening commute.

This doesn't look like a major storm - it doesn't have a ton of moisture with it and it should move out relatively quickly. However, a few of the models depict some intensification as the low moves offshore, which could produce slightly higher snowfall totals.

So expect a general coating -- 2" across the region -- with timing being onset of the precipitation after noon on Wednesday and then moving out by midnight.

As of now, the most robust guidance calls for around 2" in the Philadelphia area, while other models keep the snow amounts down to around a coating at best. Some spots will see the snow mix with rain, especially since the timing brings the system in at the warmest part of the day, and that will limit accumulations. One area to watch is the shore, because it could go two ways - if temps stay mild and precip stays light, a mix with rain could mean little or no accumulation there. However, if the storm does briefly intensify offshore, snow totals could actually be a bit higher there to reflect that.

We will continue to monitor this system and keep you posted!
