PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Parents work very hard to make their homes child safe but there are things we overlook. One area of particular concern: common household products for cleaning and cooking.

You may not think about it, but they can be a potential source of serious harm for not only children but pets as well.

The US Department of Health and Human Services thinks that it is a big enough problem that they have listed safety tips for household products.

The message is clear: make sure all potentially dangerous products are stored where children cannot reach them and in an area with good ventilation.

Another good habit to get into is to read all labels of cleaning products. You might be surprised by what you can find. It takes only a few minutes but if you don't think about it, you probbaly won't do it.
