I-95 NB Reopens In Bucks County Following Deadly Multi-Vehicle Crash
BENSALEM, Pa. (CBS) -- All northbound lanes of I-95 in Bucks County were shut down for about ten hours following a deadly multi-vehicle crash.
The crash happened around 1:20 p.m. Thursday approaching the exit for Street Road in Bensalem.
Chopper 3 HD was over the scene where it showed an overturned tractor-trailer that landed on its side in the grassy median.
A short distance behind that is another tractor-trailer and three other cars that were also involved in the crash.
Pennsylvania State Police Trevose say one person has died and several others were injured.
Sims Metal Management has identified the victim as Paul Mirys, a long-time employee of the company.
The company released the following statement on Thursday night:
"We have learned that the sole fatality in an accident that occurred today along I-95 in Pennsylvania was Paul Mirys, the driver of a Sims Metal Management truck en-route to our facility in Morrisville, Pennsylvania. Paul was a long-time employee of the company. We are all in shock over this tragic event, and our thoughts and prayers go out to his family and to everyone affected. The investigation into this accident continues, and we will continue to update the public as more information becomes available. Safety is always our number one priority at Sims, and we take every incident of this nature very seriously. We work hard every day to ensure the safety of drivers, the community and all Sims employees."
Northbound traffic was diverted off of the highway as the crash was investigated and cleared.
All northbound lanes were later reopened shortly before 11:30 p.m.
The accident remains under investigation.
