Checking Out The Top Nominees At The 2015 Consumer Electronics Awards Show

By Ian Bush

(CBS) --- They're the Oscars of the tech world -- the Best Of CES awards will be handed out tonight at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.

Judges at Engadget.com are making picks in 15 categories, including Best Health and Fitness Product.

"The Cambridge Consultants XelfleX is essentially a smart shirt -- a shirt you wear to monitor your heart rate," says Engadget senior editor Nicole Lee.

This smart shirt also does motion capture -- allowing you to perfect technique. Lee says there's also the Bragi Dash smart headphones: wireless, waterproof, music-playing, fitness-tracking earbuds.

Cord-cutters straddle a couple of categories. Lee says Sling TV from Dish lets you leave cable behind: "You can watch content from Food Network, TBS, HGTV," along with ESPN and others for $20 a month, live on your iDevice, Android, Roku, and more.

Energous shows off WattUp tonight -- it recharges smartphones and tablets without wires or power mats, once device makers start including tiny chips to accept such juice over-the-air.

Bicycle share is coming to Philadelphia, but Gogoro envisions a motorized option for urban transport: "A smart scooter that swaps batteries in six seconds," Lee describes.

And mirror, mirror, on the car -- could digital screens be far off from replacing side and rear-view glass? Displays by QNX on a Maserati are designed to prevent blindspots.
