Urban League Of Philadelphia Hosts College Internship Fair

By Hadas Kuznits

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Students involved with the Urban League of Philadelphia had the chance to connect with potential employers Wednesday at the organization's 2nd annual job fair held at the Independence Blue Cross building in Center City.

Debra Abrams, director of career services and human capital development, says internships are key in this economy.

"We tell students that it's all about the skills that you represent to employers," she says, "and an internship can really help a student to be prepared for their career."

Abrams says the job market is better now than it was a few years ago, creating more opportunities for college grads.

Seth Fields is a student at St. Joseph's University. He graduates in 2017 and is hoping to land a paid internship.

"The job market is looking fairly wide open because of my major," he says. "I'm a computer science major."

Fields says job fairs such as this one are helpful.

"It was a good opportunity to practice speaking with different companies," he says, "and to learn what I need to improve on and also how to really apply for these internships."

Fields advises other students to be prepared when attending a job fair. He says it's important to have a solid résumé and good networking skills.
