Report: Ryan Howard Can Block Trade To 20 Teams

By Andrew Porter

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) --- According to a report by ESPN.com's Jerry Crasnick, Phillies first baseman Ryan Howard can block trades to 20 MLB teams.

The teams that Howard can be traded to without his permission are the Los Angeles Angels, Detroit Tigers, Baltimore Orioles, Kansas City Royals, Seattle Mariners, New York Yankees, Texas Rangers, Tampa Bay Rays, and Boston Red Sox.

Howard, 35, signed a five-year extension with the Phillies worth $125 million in 2010. However, following injuries and declining play, Phillies General Manager Ruben Amaro Jr. said the Phillies might be better off without the first baseman.

"Perhaps at this stage of his career," Amaro said of Howard on 94WIP, "He would be in a better opportunity playing somewhere else and we would have a better opportunity to be move our organization forward with younger players."

Amaro has already begun rebuilding the franchise following a 73-89 last-place finish in 2014, trading shortstop Jimmy Rollins and outfielder Marlon Byrd.
