Giordano: Happy New Year And Lower Gas Prices Across The U.S.

By Dom Giordano

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Happy New Year and lower gas prices across the USA.  Well thanks to Governor Tom Corbett, State Senator Dominic Pileggi and others Pennsylvania is not experiencing this great benefit. On New Year's Day, Pennsylvania motorists experienced a hike in state taxes of 9.8 cents per gallon.

When I traveled to New Jersey for a funeral last week, I found many gas stations charging $2.13 per gallon of regular. In Pennsylvania, our average due to high state taxes hovers around $2.55 per gallon of regular. I interviewed the spokeswoman for PennDOT on Monday's show and she continued to make the point that we have seen a big drop from over $3.00 per gallon and we motorists are seeing great road improvements across the state. I'm not buying any of this.

I see our situation in Pennsylvania as the failed legacy of Governor Corbett. Corbett did this big transportation bill to show that he could get something big done. The governor told me directly that he did this big bill so that little kids wouldn't be in a school bus that went off a failed bridge on their way home from school.

We know hear people like former Governor Ed Rendell, Delaware Senator Tom Carper and South Dakota Senator John Thune saying that due to the drop in the cost of oil now is a golden time to raise federal gas prices. These guys never quit. It's our money not theirs. Fill up in Jersey and Delaware. Now is the time to see how low can we go.
